Conceived by Idalee Hutson-Fish, our story does not begin with the traditional Grimm fairy tale of Snow White but takes a few different twists and turns from the original story. This is NOT your Disney Snow White.

The Dance Center of Walla Walla brings to the stage the story of PINOCCHIO based on the original story by Carlo Collodi to delight audiences of all ages. Conceived and choreographed by Idalee Hutson-Fish this is the story of the wooden puppet who learns why it is important to always tell the truth.

On a warm summer evening, the Blue Fairy (Danielle Schmode) comes to a quaint little city to lend her magic on a simple pine log that will forever change the life of the lonely carpenter Geppetto (Topher Murphy).  A puppet show comes to town which gives Geppetto an idea.  He will make a himself a puppet from that magic pine log.

As our story unfolds, Pinocchio (Joel Ruybalid) will encounter all the traditional characters of the Collidi book.  He will smash a friendly Cricket (Amanda Gallaway) with a frying pan and learn hunger for the first time.  Geppetto will send him to school where he will be waylaid by the lure to dance with puppets and win the heart of the FireEater (Josue Castillo) who will give him five gold coins.  He will meet his own demise at the hands of the Fox (Nathalia Cazarez) and Cat (Taya Lovejoy) who covet the gold coins so badly.  The Blue Fairy will teach him the consequences of lying then send him off to look for Geppetto.  Geppetto will be enticed into the sea by the Sirens and then swallowed by the Whale.

Pinocchio will be chained to the doghouse and save the chickens from those Polecats. He will get in a fight with the School Kids and almost hauled off to jail but escape only to be meet the unsavory influence of Lucinella (Colleen McKibben) who talks him into joining up with The Director of Funland (Paula Vargas) who promises every kids dream in Forever Funland.  But Funland turns out not to be much fun when he is transformed into a donkey and sold to the brutally mean Ringmaster (Mimi Filan) and must perform in the circus.  The Blue Fairy changes Pinocchio back into a puppet and sends him off to search for Geppetto again. Tunnyfish (Wynter Doyle) swims with Pinocchio and they are both eaten by the Whale where he finds his beloved Geppetto.

Come to our performance of Pinocchio on December 14th at 7:00 pm at Cordiner Hall to find out what Pinocchio must do to become a “real boy”.  There are 120 dancers and performers on stage for an entertainment to delight the young and the young at heart.
